Sorry Bob, I'm still waiting to get an internet connection in my new house. They should be here this afternoon, if all goes well I will get straight on uploading them to Facebook - which you removed me off...

The biggest problem with Pugs, other than their tendency to assemble cars at home time on Friday afternoon, is that Peugeot have a habit of buying X amount of parts as a job lot and then figuring out how to shoe horn them onto their cars.

The problem comes when replacing parts, it can be terribly difficult to figure out which part is the right fit.

The VW group do the same thing but at least give you a PR code (found in the boot) and then database all the parts on the car. With Pug replacement parts are pot luck.

From a commerce perspective I've found Facebook marketing not to be very effective, it struggles to reach ROI targets. Although it has some token use Facebook is pretty much a con for SME marketeers.

As more marketeers grow dissollusioned with returns from Facebook campaigns I can see the amount of advertising increasing or the introduction of more advertorials by Facebook Inc and that could change the nature of the platform itself.

Quote from teppo.jr :couple of weeks ago i almost tied at karting race, i lost 0.007 sec , for second position );

Damn that's close, my closest was half a kart length after 2 hours (with me winning), but at the LFS meet in Nottingham a few years ago I beat felplacerad to pole by .01 in qualy (and promptly spun in the race) but I've never tied in LFS.

I suppose the reason LFS doesn't use thousandths is because with net play it just cannot guarantee accuracy at that level.

Quote from rockclan :May it happen that you got that space in your car, and you'd pick me up close to Eindhoven. I'll bring some Dutch alcoholics for you

Didn't Jason - the guy whose house it is at - say something along the lines of: "No, not over my cold dead body. No, not even then. Never. Nu-uh, no way." ?

Something or other to do with making him pay for you two years ago and not showing up I believe.

There is a fee that is paid by the payer, just over £2 I think.

I would post an update of where I am with learning guitar, but after 0.3 seconds of consideration I have decided to spare your ears because honestly I am still very much a beginner.

However if any of you are in bands in the UK somewhere in the rough proximity of the east midlands then my latest hobby is making music videos and I need more test subjects to practice on.

Here is the last one I did for Bad Faith.

If your band wants a video making, either live or story type, then fire me a PM and i'll see if we can arrange it.

I know some people absolutely hate facebook and the "invasion of privacy" and all that. And I get it, at least, I understand their position.

But for me it is an invaluable tool, which has helped me keep in touch with people I would otherwise have lost contact with - and for that Facebook is brilliant.

And sure there are better social networks with better privacy controls and less corporate interests at heart, but a social network without anyone on it isn't really a network is it - and if those other networks did grow ... they'd just become Facebook.

However I think they did cross a line when they did the email thing, because syncronising contacts to mobile would indeed have wiped out my primary store of other email addresses, and that is outright wrong. It's like they tried to hijack the worlds email, and so I have disabled this feature.

Email is broken enough as it is, without Facebook asking me to get 8 million dollars out of Nigeria 5 times a day.

Quote from the_angry_angel :Also thanks for your thoughts as well Kiyoshi It's appreciated - you're spot on with your scoring idea

Kiyoshi's idea is very close to how I did it in X-Cam.

The heuristic I used gave each car a score based upon position, which was bell curved at the start and end of the race and straight in the middle. I then modified that score by how close they where to nearby cars (position, not on track).

A second score was calculated for throwing yellows and off track incidents, This score was multiplied if other cars in the same sector also threw yellows or travelled off speed. There wasnt collision data back then, so I didnt have that to use. This temporary score was balanced against the first to decide if a temporary "action" switch was worthwhile, and to a large extent was the result of trial and error.

I decided to make this second score totally independent of the position/battle score because I designed it for league racing so incidents where rare-ish and more important. A public pickup racing camera system likely would combine the scores.

Overides existed for the first and last lap. As its important in race coverage to show the winner crossing the line, and other cars need a strong weighting as they cross the line.

Ideally I would have liked my system to thrown in a few artistic cameras and helicopter shots when the interest scores where not that high, but I never got that far.

The other thing I really wanted to do with X-Cam was to allow it to connect to 2 copies of LFS, one being 10 seconds or so behind the first so that it could read ahead (you can do this with live races too by opening the reply file after the race has started for playback, and leave the master copy reading off the live stream). This would allow better prediction of where the camera should be - which in most sim racing broadcasts would be a huge advantage as replays cause that visual latency especially as they grow in size.

In my dreams a second computer could then have been used to bring in replays with a video A/B switch to the encoding machine, and a control interface with each incident as a button - but I didnt have anywhere near enough hardware to do that.

Quote :I will be honest the whole custom camera thing is something I want to work on next, which will fall into the whole track node weighting, but I've not got as much time to work on xi4n for the next few weeks Fecking work and family

This is what will bring the footage alive. Once you have the custom camera's setup and tracking multiple cars the difference in final quality is immense and you can do away completely with the standard cameras.

My method involved aggregating the "position" of the car viewed with other cars it was close too. You need to give a read ahead prediction which is relatively easy to sort out and the smoothing is just a matter of visually adjusting it until the effect is right. It's pretty simple once it clicks, and the results are stunning.

EDIT: Oh yes, you also need a mechanism to make sure the camera doesnt switch too fast. I can't remember what I did for that, I think I did a lock for 2 seconds or something, and artificially inflated the car's interest score when the camera switched, then degraded it back to 0 over time.

I say we drive over to the house of whoever made it in our hybrid powered cars and shoot them with solar powered guns.

I agree with Vain.

Ive also been painted into a corner which I'm not in, I simply visit it more often than most because of the way I approach problem solving. But I guess that's just the nature of forums.

The more we have his discussion the more respect I am loosing for you, you're cashing in too much these days. I used to think quite highly of you, but you seem to be approaching this from such a close minded position.

If I continue to give solutions you will reject them again and again, we're going nowhere here. On the second solution you facepalmed so completely with maximum stupidity, on the first the answers are so instinctive and obvious to me (as I'm quite practiced in my own techniques) that I do wonder if you are just heckling for the sake of it.

If you get your head out of your ass long enough you might accept there is more than 1 way to skin a cat, you might have your own solution that you believe is better than mine - but that's okay, saying my way doesn't work when I have already written so much software is like a Christian saying science doesnt work, only my explanation from this book can be right.

If you want to carry yourself in that way then carry on, I'm not goig to bother with you. Im just going to unsubscribe the thread.
